In a major shift, Anthropic has announced that starting April 4th, users with Claude subscriptions will no longer have access to third-party tools such as OpenClaw without incurring additional costs. Boris Cherny, an executive at Anthropic Claude Code, stated, “Starting tomorrow at 12 PM PT, Claude subscriptions will no longer cover usage on third-party tools like OpenClaw.” He further explained that users can still access these third-party tools using their Claude login through newly available usage bundles, offered at a discounted rate, or through a Claude API key.
This change has been framed as a necessary adjustment in response to increased demand for Claude. Cherny emphasized that the current subscription model was not designed to support the usage patterns associated with third-party tools, leading to strain on Anthropic's infrastructure. “Capacity is a resource we manage thoughtfully, and we are prioritizing our customers using our products and API,” he added.

Users who feel dissatisfied with these changes will also have the option to request a full refund, with instructions being sent via email the following day.
